"KOTO began in a workshop, with a belief that beautiful things deserve to be made with care."
Chapter One
A Workshop, A Founder, A Belief
The first KOTO piece was cut from a single bolt of silk, recovered from a mill that was about to discard it. It became a slip. It was given to a friend. She wrote back two weeks later: "I have never owned anything like this." That letter is still pinned to the wall above the cutting bench.
Chapter Two
What We Choose to Use
"There is enough beautiful fabric already in the world. We need better hands to find it."
Every metre of fabric we use was destined for somewhere else. Surplus from couture houses. Overruns from heritage mills. End-of-line from family weavers. We trace it, test it, and if it meets the KOTO standard, we save it. Nothing is wasted. This is not a marketing position; it is the premise of the house.
Chapter Three
The Trusted Circle
We do not make everything ourselves. Some pieces are created by independent artisans whose work we respect: selected by hand, never by algorithm. Each partner is visited. Each workshop is seen. Each maker is named. If you are wearing a partner piece, you can read about the person who made it on the product page.
Chapter Four
Where We Are Going
KOTO will remain small, slow, and made by people we know from materials we can trace. We are not interested in scale for its own sake. We are interested in depth: making each piece better, each story fuller, and each customer more known to us. The Box and the Mix are how we do that.
